Located off the beaten path on Diamond Mountain, the winery is a barn that was built in the late 1880s. It has been remodeled into a modern winemaking facility while retaining its working-ranch charm. To take full advantage of the hillside location and to better control the variables of winemaking, the von Strassers added caves to their property. These caves are included in the winery tours. Often they are led by the owner Rudy von Strasser, who is also the winemaker. Known for their big Cabs, von Strasser offers single-vineyard bottling, rare in the marketplace. They are also the only winery in the US producing a Gruner Veltliner. It’s a white wine made almost exclusively in Austria and the Czech Republic, known affectionately as Gru-Vee The tasting room is charming but unprepossessing. Even better are the outdoor areas: amazing views, well-maintained and blending nicely into the countryside. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual with one exception: the staff is very serious about the wine. The Cartel Wine club offers members a discount on von Strasser wine club shipments, complimentary tours and tasting for you and up to three guests, invitations to members-only events and access to a private picnic area.

von Strasser Winery is a small family-owned winery specializing in unique and single vineyard designated wines from Napa vineyards. They are located about 1.5 miles in from the main highway on the narrow winding tree covered Diamond Mountain Road right next to Reverie Winery. These two wineries are the only wineries in this particular area and it makes sense to visit both during your stop here. Rudy & Rita von Strasser are the owners and they live on site.
