Mendocino County is known for its "green wine" production: over 25% of the grapes grown there are certified Organic. North of Sonoma County and roughly 90 miles north of San Francisco, Mendocino is produces some of the country's foremost sparkling wines and Pinot Noirs.
The varied terrain and expansive range of micro climates enables Mendocino wineries to produce a wide variety of grapes: Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Sirah, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Rose, Sparkling Wines and Port.
The Mendocino Wine Country is full of Bed and Breakfasts, amazing restaurants, microbreweries and artist studios. The atmosphere is casual and laid backthe tasting rooms friendly and welcoming. Start your exploration on Highway 101, in the rustic little town of Hopland then work your way along Highway 128. The Southeast end and sunny ridges above Anderson Valley produce excellent Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot.
Mendocino offers the usual wine country attractions like golf and horseback riding. Mendocino is also known for hiking, biking and kayaking as well as whale watching and fishing.
