Food & Wine Pairings

Many wineries are now offering food and wine pairing events so that visitors can fully explore the flavors and scents of both the wine and the food. World-class chefs are now employed to supply many tasting rooms with food and wine pairings. Some explore all natural, all local, artisan ingredients, others experiment with ethnic fusion menus.

Most experts shy away from "rules" about matching wines and food (for example, only serving white wine with chicken dishes limits one's experience). Rather, they carefully match the intensity of flavors and balance them: salty, sweet, sour, bitter and umami (newest taste that is employed when eating mushrooms, tomatos and certain aged cheeses).

Visitors can participate in food and wine pairing events that range from arrays of appetizers, to multi-course winemaker dinners.
