Blended Tastings

Most winemakers blend Merlot into their Cabernet, or combine grapes from different Pinot Noir clones because it usually produces a far more balanced wine with better flavor, structure and color. Part art and part science, blending is the method by which vintners refine their wines before bottling.

During a blended wine tasting event, visitors get to taste the individual wines and various combinations of the ingredients until the final product is achieved. One might try a blend of 90% Cab and 10% Merlot, then compare to a blend of 80% Cab and 20% Merlot. Understanding the interplay of the varietals is fascinating and a great way to more fully explore a wine region.
